Is someone in your family a university student looking for a summer job on Georgian Bay? The Pointe au Baril Islanders’ Association (PaBIA) is looking for student candidates to help us continue a focus on environmental and key quality of life issues that impact our island community: Employment Period: PaBIA is seeking qualified University students with interests in the local environment, protecting community quality of life, and promoting better boating safety. The selected students would serve as members of the Marine Patrol, who support an active partnership with local Georgian Bay Land Trust (GBLT) property stewards, monitor land use, educate the public, and collect much needed data to document environmental impacts on our community. As members of the Marine Patrol, key responsibilities and duties include: Partnering with the GBLT stewards to monitor and maintain local properties Promoting environmental responsibility by monitoring/cleaning-up local Crown land recreational areas Conducting water quality testing of representative PaB sites Supporting any first response to a local emergency Promoting safe and courteous boating practices in local waters Educating members and visitors on proper use of GBLT and Crown lands Providing cottage visits, when they are requested Documenting/reporting any infractions/issues/concerns to PaBIA supervision Documenting all activities, while maintaining an updated MP database that provides PaBIA with essential data to establish stakeholder credibility in applicable local issues.
